John & Tom's Mattress-Buying Tips
From 'Between The Sheets' On Channel 3's Better Connecticut
- Visit a Better Bedding store when you aren't receiving a restful full night's sleep or if you wake up with any discomfort.
- Upon entering a store, take a "Test Rest" on two to three mattresses for a few minutes in the position you would sleep in.
- Have the salesperson in the store find your Sleep Number. This determines your mattress preference based on comfort level of firmness or softness.
- Buy the biggest bed you can afford for your size bedroom. Keep in mind, a full size bed is 54 inches wide -- this means that for two people to sleep in a full size bed, each person only has the area of a crib mattress to sleep on.
- Find the mattress that is right for you by assessing comfort, size, and budget.
- Think about your needs and share them with the salesperson. For example: Have you had injuries? Do you have back problems? Think about the position you sleep in (Are you a side sleeper? Or, do you sleep on your back or stomach?).
- A mattress and foundation are designed to work as a set: Try to buy the whole set to ensure comfort and durability.
- You should invest as much as you can on a mattress. We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed, so buying a mattress set that provides comfort and support is a key ingredient in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
