Art Show in Redding New Pond Farm, educational center and working farm in West Redding, will feature the works of well-known Connecticut artists in a special invitational art show, "Celebrating the Seasons," from June 13 to 27, 2009, at the farm's headquarters. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays; and noon to 5 p.m., Sundays. Admission is free. For weekend visitors, complimentary coffee will be available as well as muffins. New Pond Farm is located on Marchant Road, quarter mile from the junction of Route 53 and Umpawaug Road. Trip to ‘Camelot’ The Elmwood Senior Center has planned a trip to the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam to see “Camelot,” July 15. The musical chronicles the legend of king Arthur and his tortured love affair with Queen Guenevere. Lunch at the Gelston House with a choice of pasta, chicken marsala, steak or filet of sole. The bus departs at 10:30 a.m. from the center lower parking lot and will return about 6 p.m. Prereigster at the center, 1106 New Britain Avenue, Elmwood. Free T’ai Classes The Rotary Club of Deep River is sponsoring free T’ai Chi Classes from June 23 to August 27, 2009, from 7 to 8 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at the park near the town landing. In case of rain, class will be held at the Stone House on Main Street. Wear comfortable clothing allowing freedom of movement. No prior experience necessary, public welcome.

Summer School Program Connecticut Christian Academy is accepting applications for a summer school program that includes learning, arts and crafts and field trips. Botany from Basic to Bizarre! The University of Connecticut’s Kids are Scientists Too Program (KAST) will explore the science and mystery of plants in this new module from UConn’s EEB Greenhouses. This week of botanical adventure will begin by learning the secrets of how plant scientists identify different plants, the chance to experience tropical forests to deserts right at UConn, make two terrariums to take home with flesh-eating carnivorous plants and another with a desert dwelling plant, taste some bizarre fruits, and more. Museum Fridays Drop into the CT State Museum of Natural History anytime between 1 and 3 p.m., Fridays, and admission is free. Kids Archaeology Children entering grades five through 10 are invited to spend a week with archaeologists from the University of Connecticut exploring the world of field archaeology. They will learn the science of archaeology and how to use the tools and methods of genuine archaeologists. They will be part of a real field crew, doing hands-on fieldwork and laboratory research. Tennis Tournament The Wallingford Family YMCA Filipek Sr. Memorial Tennis Tournament will be played evenings and weekends, June 13 to 21, 2009, at Choate Rosemary School in Wallingford. Farming the Sound People can farm the Long Island Sound. In this case the livestock are shellfish and the shellfish-growing technique is called aquaculture. Beekeeping – A Sweet Idea Over 100,000 bees are housed in 10 hives at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, which provide the honey served in the school’s dining halls.
