Dodd, Giuliani Ask To Be On Conn. Ballots

    Presidential Campaigns Contact State

    POSTED: 12:35 pm EDT August 29, 2007

Two of several presidential candidates have already contacted Connecticut to get on the ballot.

U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani were the first candidates to contact the Secretary of the State's office, requesting to appear on the Feb. 5 primary ballots. Dodd is running as a Democrat and Giuliani is running as a Republican.

In his letter to the state, Giuliani's campaign committee chairman, Patrick Oxford, wrote: "… to inform you officially that Mayor Giuliani is seeking the 2008 Republican nomination for President of the United States."

Scott Arceneaux, national political director for Dodd wrote: "It is very important to Sen. Dodd that the people of Connecticut, who he has represented so proudly since 1974, have the opportunity to express their support for his candidacy, and he intends to work hard for their votes."

By law, the secretary of the state decides which names appear on the ballot, or a petition, signed by at least 1 percent of the enrolled members of the party in the state, is submitted.

The state's ballot is scheduled to be announced on Nov. 19.
