New Program Helps Students Prep For College
State, Local Partnerships Target Low-Income Students

HARTFORD, Conn. -- State, local and community organizations are partnering to prepare young students for college.KnowHow2GOConnecticut will help young people, particularly low-income students and those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education, according to the governor's office. The program is slated to launch on Thursday.State officials cited statistics that indicate low-income students are underrepresented on state college campuses. The state plans to promote the program via radio, TV and the Internet."This new Web site will serve as a one-stop resource for information on college, with links to Connecticut graduation requirements, Connecticut post-secondary institutions, and financial aid resources. The Web page will also let students and parents chat with an expert to help answer their questions," Gov. Jodi Rell said in a statement.The campaign encourages students to take college preparatory courses and seek help from guidance counselors or community organizations that college. The program will also include financial aid information.The program is scheduled to launch on Wednesday at Dr. Joseph Belizzi Middle School in Hartford, Clemente Leadership Academy in New Haven, Bassick High School in Bridgeport and New London Science and Technology Magnet High School.Link: KnowHow2GOConnecticut
