ANSONIA, Conn. -- With cars traveling one way and students trying to go another, it can lead to some close calls. There have been several efforts over the years to get drivers to slow down on the road outside Ansonia High School, school community members said, especially during times when students are entering and leaving school. The superintendent said the town even had the state do a study in which it looks at the number of accidents, traffic patterns and the curvature of the road in an effort to get a traffic light on the road, but to no avail.Beyond the issue of dangerous driving, the superintendent said, is that there are no sidewalks. The superintendent said that unless students cross over the barrier and walk in the grass, there's no safe place to walk.Police said they do deal with accidents along the stretch of the road in front of the school, but that there haven't been serious incidents in recent years.
