Church To Take Up Residence At H.S.

Principal Calls Deal Win-Win

A West Hartford church is planning to take up residence in the town's high school for the summer, and both sides said it's a win-win situation.

"They've met with us," Conard High School Principal Tom Moore said. "They seem like really nice people who want to do what's good for them and help us out."

In mid-July, members of the Calvary Fellowship, a growing non-denominational church, will pay close to $900 a week to hold Sunday services in the school's auditorium.

The Rev. Bill Lamore, of the Calvary Fellowship said the group's current venue is too small.

"There aren't that many options," he said. "It's bigger than we've needed. That's our hope within a few years here.

Lamore said the group will also be able to use the cafeteria for Sunday school.

He said the church also understands that the school is needed for a few Sundays during the years for student activities.

Moore said the contract will net about $45,000 for the school year. He said part of that will be used to cover additional maintenance and operating costs.

The custodial staff will have to be on-hand on Sunday mornings to open and close the building for the group.

But what's left over stays at Conard, Moore said.

"If this can support our arts, academics and we can help the community, this is a win-win," he said.
