MILFORD, Conn. -- Students at Platt Technical High School are looking for someone who needs a home built, at a reduced price.Anyone who is looking to build a home can expect to pay close to $150 an hour for a professional carpenter. However, if you use the students who are learning to become professionals, you can expect to pay less.Using the students from Platt cost only about $15 an hour, about $135 less than using a professional. Also, the money you spend to let the students construct your new home goes right back to the school's program. The students are eager to take what they are learning in the classrooms into the field. These building projects are usually from private individuals and property owners who already have blueprints and are within 20 miles of the school.Peter Mcdevitt, of Platt Tech, said, "Primarily our focus is on a medium-sized home, something where they can do all the phases of construction from the construction all the way to the roof."In addition to carpentry, Platt has programs in electrical, plumbing and many more fields and students from those programs are available for work as well.
