ANSONIA, Conn. -- The state Department of Motor Vehicles is marking national school bus safety week by focusing on getting kids to arrive at school safely.Inspectors from the DMV went to Ansonia High School on Monday to show exactly what goes into a bus inspection.Sergeant Garfield Green from the DMV said, “Brakes, suspension, steering, the wipers, lights, tires. Every school bus or school transportation vehicle gets inspected once a year by the DMV. We have to do that by law.”Beyond the inspections, the theme for this year is “Avoid harm, obey the stop arm.”Bus drivers said that they routinely have drivers blow right past the stop signs and lights that busses are equipped with. They want this week to be a reminder.Brenda Bass, from All Star Transportation said, “So when you see those amber lights come on if you could just slow down and prepare to stop. Once the SOS lights are activated you need to stop, and remain stopped, until they go off.”
