HARTFORD, Conn. -- Moguls from the movie industry met with lawmakers in Hartford Tuesday to discuss enhancing tax credits for productions shot in the state.Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Susan Raff reported that tax incentives that took effect last summer have raked in $96 million in film, television and commercial production.Ron Wechsler, the vice president of ESPN Original Entertainment, appeared in Hartford Tuesday. ESPN recently shot "The Bronx Is Burning," a television mini-series about the 1977 New York Yankees in Norwich."This is a local story, we wanted to be able to tell it here, and the fact the state provided us with an opportunity to do it here was a real keen incentive for us," Wechsler said. The first major movie shot entirely shot in Connecticut in over a decade was filmed recently in New Haven. The movie "In Bloom" stars Uma Thurman.Film producers told Connecticut lawmakers that Connecticut is a natural place to film and that 400 world-famous actors either live in the state or in neighboring New York, making it an easy commute."This has been such a fun adventure for me, to actually do something that is fun and positive for the state of Connecticut brings excitement to our area," said House Speaker James Amann.Legislators are looking to enhance the current tax credits and training for people who want to work in the film industry.
