Sting, Angle, Cage Scrap For NWA Belt

Listen up!Class is in session. This week, TNA is back in the pay-per-view spotlight with its "Sacrifice" show. The number three seems to be the theme as the triple-main event featured a trio of three-way matches. My predictions -- and what happened -- on those later, but first, the undercard:Challenge Match: Christopher Daniels vs. Rhino
What Should Happen: Here's a fresh matchup: a monster versus a fallen angel. Daniels should win, as he needs to get back into the heavyweight title picture.
What Will Happen: Daniels wins cleanly over Rhino.
What Did Happen: Daniels took it.
Challenge Match: Jeff Jarrett vs. Robert Roode
What Should Happen: Jarrett, recently returning to TNA as a babyface, takes on the somewhat boring Roode. But I do like this contest. Actually, what I like about it most is that Jarrett didn't put himself in the main event/title picture immediately. This could be entertaining, especially since Jarrett is fighting for the honor of Roode's slave -- Eric Young.
What Will Happen: Jarrett will win. If he's on the undercard, you know he isn't going to lose.
What Did Happen: In an upset, Roode pinned Jarrett.
Texas Deathmatch: James Storm vs. Chris Harris
What Should Happen: These guys (the former America's Most Wanted tag team) met in a horrible blindfold match at the last TNA pay-per-view. Since that was money stolen, they have to make up for it here. We'll see.
What Will Happen: I'm going with Storm to get the victory.
What Did Happen: Harris outlasted Storm for the win. Much better match than their previous encounter.
Challenge Match: A.J. Styles vs. Samoa Joe
What Should Happen: This could be a main event for the NWA title. In fact, it probably should be sooner or later. But for some reason TNA treats these two as if they can't cut it in the main slots. They're wrong. As a result, Joe and Styles shouldn't pout, but be smart enough to burn the house down.
What Will Happen: I'm going with Samoa Joe. Something tells me TNA is aiming toward Joe versus Angle for the NWA title soon.
What Did Happen: Joe got the pin.
X-Division Title Match: Chris Sabin (c) vs. Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt
What Should Happen: Since this is the X-Division, I'm guessing this match should live up to all expectations and be a barnburner -- featuring plenty of near-falls. As for who should win, there's nothing wrong with keeping the belt on a solid champ. Sabin is that guy, with Lethal and Dutt capable -- but still a step below him. The only thing that could ruin this match is interference from Kevin Nash, who mentors Lethal and Dutt.
What Will Happen: Sabin keeps his belt.
What Did Happen: Lethal and Dutt turned on each other, allowing Sabin to get the pin.
NWA World Tag Team Title Match: Team 3D (c) vs. LAX vs. Scott Steiner and Tyson Tomko.
What Should Happen: I kind of like this match, too. It has the former Dudley Boys as champs taking on the Latino team they recently beat for the titles. Add in the knuckleheads Steiner and Tomko and you have all the ingredients for the wild show. If I were booking it, I'd keep the belts on Brothers Ray and Devon -- they worked too hard against LAX to give them up just a month later.
What Will Happen: I like Team 3D to retain the belts.
What Did Happen: Team 3D won it.
NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Christian Cage (c) vs. Kurt Angle vs. Sting
What Should Happen: Give the belt to Angle. It's time for his title series with Samoa Joe.
What Will Happen: Angle will wrangle the belt from Cage.
What Did Happen: One referee had Angle winning, another had Sting winning. I'm claiming victory!
That'll do it. My picks for TNA's "Sacrifice." For the record, I had five right and two wrong in the big matches. That Angle thing was a mess, but I guess TNA wants you to watch Thursday night for an explanation as to who really has the belt. Not a mess? Episode 30 of the stellar "Old School, New School" podcast. This week, it's jam-packed with great stuff. My co-hosts Dr. Mike Lano and George Schire talk at length about the legend of Bruiser Brody. Also on tap, why The Great Khali is in the WWE title hunt and we go thumbs up, thumbs down on the Kane/Boogeyman tag team. If that's not enough, then how about Part One of my interview with the great AWA star Baron Von Raschke? Thought you'd like that.
