PRESTON, Conn. -- A bit of Hollywood is coming to southeastern Connecticut.Scouts are currently looking for several settings in the eastern part of the state that could serve as a setting for a script for an upcoming movie set in 1973.The book and movie script of "Lovely Bones" calls for a rural New England setting. The movie is based on the tragic rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in the winter of 1973.Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin Hogan reported that award-winning director Peter Jackson, famous for the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "King Kong," is on board with the production team. With new state tax incentives for feature films, the movie could bring a lot of money to the region."They bring money into hotels, motels, restaurants, local hardware stores. They bring a lot of cash into the economy," said Preston's first selectman, Robert Congdon.Hogan reported that the scouts are looking for a cornfield next to a grammar school, much like a location in Preston. They are also looking for a 1950s neighborhood setting and a 1970s-style mall. Hogan reported that the Norwichtown Mall is empty and could fit the bill.
