Norwich Readies For Month-Long Celebration
City Celebrating 350th Anniversary

NORWICH, Conn. -- A month's worth of festivities have been planned to ring in Norwich's 350th anniversary.The city's month-long celebration is slated to kick off Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Mohegan tribe's burial grounds, at which time the deed-signing between members of the tribe and the city will be re-enacted.Coinciding with the 350th anniversary celebration is the Riverfest celebration at Harbor Park.Dragon boat races will begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in the harbor, which will host nearly a dozen food vendors, music and more, volunteer Brian Kobylarz said."We have bands coming in and playing throughout the afternoon, Miss Connecticut will make an appearance, an entire Children's Village arts and crafts, a preview of our fall auto show," he said. "There's plenty for everybody to do, all free and open to the public."The Rose City has been planning the milestone birthday for more than a year, officials said.Among the highlights are the deed-signing on June 6 at 10 a.m., cemetery tours on June 13, Harbor Day on June 26 and a parade on July 5 in Norwichtown.A laser light show is also scheduled for later this month in the harbor area.For more information, visit the Norwich 350th Web site.
