Pet insurance might be the answer to helping pet owners pay their vet bills.

Maddy recently visited the veterinarian for a routine checkup and vaccines. Veterinarian Dr. Eva Ceranowicz said these visits provide the perfect time to consider pet insurance.

Ceranowicz explained that a good time to consider the insurance is "when the animal is young and healthy and don't have any other medical conditions going on."

When it comes to price, all the policies vary. Some can cost a couple hundred dollars while others can go as high as $10,000 a year.

Some policies are good for paying regular visits like checkups while other policies will go as far as offering cancer treatment. Insurance also comes in handy during emergencies.

"It's very helpful for those awful and unexpected situations where they could be hit by a car or some medical condition that starts up. It's nice to know you have that back up," Ceranowicz said.

Pet insurance wasn't always so common, but now, vets are seeing it more often.

"It really boils down to there is so much more you can do for your pet nowadays that it's nice to be able to do that," Ceranowicz said.
