PLAINVILLE, Conn. -- A malnourished dog found with another pit bull that was severely abused has found a new home.Plainville Animal Control officials told Eyewitness News on Wednesday that a woman from Portland who has many pets of her own -- including a pit bull and four cats -- has adopted the 4-month-old puppy.Animal control officials have completed a background check of the woman adopting the puppy and said she has a great record of caring for pets. The puppy was found in the home of Saverino Cruz, 32. Cruz was arrested and accused by police of drilling holes into another dog's head after it bit his 8-year-old son in the arm.
"Saverino Cruz left work upon discovering his son had been bit. He went back to the household and, in a fit of rage, grabbed a power drill and drilled the dog that bit this son ... in the head several times," Plainville police Capt. Peter Costanzo said. "He then went to the hospital to see his son."
Man Accused Of Drilling Dog's Head (WARNING: Explicit Pictures)Police said the chain of events unfolded on Sunday when Cruz's brother, Enrique, the owner of the dog, was watching his nephew, Nick. Both men were arrested and charged with animal cruelty. When officers got to the house, they also found the 4-month-old puppy. Both dogs were malnourished, unlicensed and not vaccinated, police said. Baby was later euthanized.
