Dozens of cats that were removed from a home in New Britain last week are getting a new shot at life.

Humane Society workers said that many of the animals were in poor condition, but have since been nursed back to health and are ready for new homes.

More than 40 cats were taken from the home. Officials said that many of the animals were treated for disease or illness, and that some even needed surgery.

Police said the owners of the home had hoarded cats for several years.

Shelter workers said the cats have been nursed to health and will be ready for adoption at an adopt-a-thon this weekend.

The adoption event will be held at the Meriden Humane Society, which is a no-kill shelter.
