GLASTONBURY, Conn. -- Rose’s Berry Farm is celebrating its 100th year in business, but this year’s crop of strawberries is a bit behind, said farm owner Sandi Rose."The weather was a little erratic in the spring, so they are just being a little temperamental ..." she said. “The normal season we figure for us is normally about June 10 through July 4."Strawberries that ripen later in the season tend to be smaller, but Rose said she likes them better."The flavor gets so much more intense because they're a little smaller,” she said. “They just sit there, and they just ripen and they get full of sugar."
Blueberries, will be ready in a few weeks, she said. That harvest lasts longer than the shorter three-week strawberry season, she said.As for prices, she said they’re up this year by about 20 cents per pound."You have to remember that all of our equipment takes diesel fuel," she said.More information: Rose’s Berry Farm PickYourOwn.org
