BRISTOL, Conn. -- Skateboarders have been flocking to the new skate park in Bristol, but bikers have been on the outside looking in.Many want that rule changed. The head of Bristol’s Parks and Recreation Commission said the bikes have been banned for safety reasons. He said BMX bikes could gouge out the concrete bowl, making it less safe for skateboarders.Bob Desmarais said that excuse doesn’t fly with him. A former X-games rider, he said his three sons all ride BMX bikes.
Dan Fuller said he hopes Bristol will rethink banning bikers from the park.“I think boarders have the same rights as bikers,” he said.A compromise could be coming, according to Parks and Recreation. Members said a new plan on the table would keep the bowl for skateboarders but allow bikers access to the rest of the park.
