An Army of contractors, builders and volunteers are working against the clock to build a dream home for a Suffield family.

The show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is in Suffield working with a Sunday deadline to build a home for the Hill family.

Hundreds of volunteers worked Wednesday to build the new home on the spot where the old home once stood. The demolition of the Hill's old home was completed Tuesday.

Ken Pecoy, the project manager and owner of Pecoy Signature Homes, said construction is going well, though there have been setbacks.

"The rain unquestionably set us behind, and we're probably, at the moment, about five hours behind, but I'm pretty hopeful we'll catch it on the framing.

Rockville Bank President Bill McGurk was also working hard at the site, but in a different way.

"I'm working in the kitchen," he said. "I'm moving chicken and serving salad."

McGurk was joined by other employees from Rockville Bank volunteered Wednesday to make sure all of the volunteers at the construction site were fed.

"We like giving back," McGurk said. "We like giving back to the community, and this is an example -- extreme makeover, extreme example -- of giving back to your community."

The Hills' small ranch house was damaged by a fire six years ago. This week, a new home is being constructed in its place while the family takes a vacation to Disney World.

The new home will be 5,000 square feet, project members said. Connecticut and Massachusetts businesses are supplying lumber and materials to the effort, including Sanford and Hawley Lumber.

In celebration of its 125 years in business, the company delivered the lumber to the site the way it was done when the business started.

"We have a truck following a wagon, and a lot of the frame has been panelized over the last few weeks," said Frank Sanford, of Sanford and Hawley.
