HARTFORD, Conn. -- A consumer group has released it annual list of unsafe toys. There are plenty of interesting updates from the public interest group. The group now believes any toy that can fit entirely into a toilet paper tube presents a choking hazard for a child under the age of 3.That is much larger than the previous rule of thumb.Dangerous toys making the list of the consumer group this holiday season falls into three groups; those that contain lead, those that present a noise hazard and those that are a choking danger to children. One toy, a Kota and Pals Stompers Triceratops’ roar presents a noise hazard, according to the Connpirg Consumer Advocate group.Jen Hatch, of Connpirg Consumer Advocate group said, “If you keep him away from the microphone, he exceeds 90 decibels, which is above the standard. He’s kind of soft and furry; kids can be holding him close to their ears. At prolonged periods of time this can cause permanent hearing damage."Also, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said that balloons that can be popped and ingested present a large choking hazard to children, a longtime focus of Blumenthal."Balloons can be treacherous, and toxic. They can be the most dangerous killers among any of these toys," Blumenthal said. For more information about the list that Connpirg Consumer Advocate group presented, you can visit their Web site.
