HARTFORD, Conn. -- Bridging the gap in health care in Connecticut is the goal of the Health Care 4 Every1 campaign."I want progress and some hopes that things will change," Hartford resident Barbara Albert said.Albert said she suffers from mental illness and other problems.“I’m on disability and Social Security, and I don't have access to health care with my disabilities mostly," she said.Albert and dozens of others showed up at Union Station Tuesday night to learn more about a new health care plan in Connecticut spearheaded by the Universal Health Care Foundation."I am tired of negotiating contracts, deals for health care, where the costs are passed onto us,” said Paul Kay, of Bristol. “It would make more sense if everyone has health care."At the event, Health Care 4 Every1 unveiled its proposed outline, called SustiNet, which is designed to control costs, save businesses and families money, and make coverage available to everyone in the state.Proponents said they want stronger patient care, more competitive reimbursement rates for doctors and better use of electronic medical records. They said they want to see a bill made and passed into law by Connecticut's lawmakers along these lines."It will open up the pool to uninsured people working with no insurance and will also be available to cover or find coverage … and open to small businesses across the state," said Frances Padilla, vice president of program and police for the group. For more information, visit the Health Care 4 Every1 Web site.
