HARTFORD, Conn. -- Consumer Reports found 19 name brand canned foods contain the chemical Bisphenol A, or BPA.The study said common food products like Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup, Nestle's Juicy Juice and Progresso Vegetable Soup have some levels of BPA.The chemical caused concern because it's also found in baby bottles. The chemical has been linked to several health issues including reproductive abnormalities and breast cancer.Federal guidelines state people shouldn't be exposed to more than 50 micrograms of BPA per kilogram of body weight. The study found that the chemical that's found in the cans exceeds that.Hartford Hospital toxicologist Charles McKay said the guidelines are overly precautious.McKay said he is more worried that the study will make people afraid. In August, Gov. Jodi Rell signed a bill that will ban BPA in baby bottles and food and beverage containers by October 2011.
