Hartford Defends Against West Nile Virus
City Catch Basins To Be Treated With Lavicide

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Hartford Health and Human Services Department will take active measures to fight West Nile Virus.The city announced Friday that, as part of the mosquito management initiative, all water catch basins in the city will be treated with larvicide.Larvicide is an insecticide that is used to kill larval mosquitoes living in aquatic habitats. It is registered with both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Department of Environmental Protection. Due to recent reports of West Nile Virus in Connecticut all residents are urged to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
