NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Health officials in New Haven are considering spraying the city for mosquitoes after the city's second confirmed case of human-contracted West Nile virus. The latest victim of the virus, described as a person in their 40s, was initially treated for meningitis but eventually tested positive for West Nile Virus. The New Haven individual is the third Connecticut resident to contract the virus. A man in Bristol survived the virus and a New Haven woman died of complications from the virus, which is spread by infected mosquitoes."We fully anticipate that the virus is going to expand. There's no reason to suggest that the numbers are going to go down right now, because that's what all the information seems to suggest," said state entomologist Dr. Ted Andreadis.Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Leon Collins reported that when West Nile virus first appeared in the state years ago health officials began spraying to fight the spread of the virus. The spraying was halted due to cuts in funding.Stay with WFSB.com and Channel 3 Eyewitness News for the latest news updates.
