2 New Cases Of West Nile Virus Reported
Rell Authorizes Purchase Of Additional Larvicide
Two new human cases of West Nile virus in Connecticut were confirmed Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases up to five, with one fatality for the year.The two cases were reported in Bridgeport and Hamden.
State Increases Precautions After New West Nile CasesState environmental protection and public health officials are intensifying measures to protect the public from the mosquito-borne virus.Gov. M. Jodi Rell authorized the purchase of additional supplies of larvicide for towns to combat mosquito populations. Larvicide kills mosquito larva in breeding areas.West Nile-positive mosquitoes have been identified in 17 cities and towns throughout the state: Bridgeport, Danbury, Darien, East Haven, Glastonbury, Greenwich, Hartford, Killingworth, Milford, New Haven, Newington, Norwalk, Southington, Stamford, Stratford, West Haven and Wethersfield.Stay with WFSB.com and Channel 3 Eyewitness News for the latest news updates.
