According to his MySpace page, he was scheduled to return from duty in Iraq in January. Lantieri served in the Army's 25th Infantry Division.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Hena Daniels reported the town is remembering a son, brother and friend as messages pour in to the soldier's MySpace page.

The messages have come from friends and family from all over the world, many wishing they had a chance to say goodbye.

Others have shared stories, saying he loved snowboarding, fishing and skydiving. Lantieri graduated from Haddam-Killingworth High School in 2000 and attended Western New England College.

Lantieri is the 39th person with Connecticut ties who died in Iraq or Afghanistan. The governor ordered on Thursday flags to fly at half-staff.
