A Connecticut man stationed in Iraq is one of more than 100,000 troops spending the holiday away from family and friends.

Pfc. Jonathan Catty, of Litchfield, has been stationed in Iraq for 11 months, and is spending his first holiday away from his family.

Catty is working as a medic in a Calvary scout platoon and spoke with Eyewitness News from Iraq.

"It's tough being away from my family, especially since it's the first time away from my family, but the command has been great, the support from the states has been great," he said.

Catty said he is currently working to help an Iraqi woman learn how to walk after she lost her legs two years ago in an insurgent attack.

"The past few days she's coming back and forth between Baghdad and our patrol base and she now has prosthetic legs and we're working on getting her walking again," Catty said.

Catty isn't expected to return from deployment until June. He said once he returns, he hopes to become a firefighter.
