27 Seconds Left: Hand Beats Westies

There was plenty of scoring in the first half at the Surf Club on Friday.

The Daniel Hand Tigers hosted the West Haven Blue Devils.

Hand sophomore quarterback Nick Merullo threw a perfect pass to Steve Frey, who took it all the way down to the West Haven 10-yard line. That play set up Merullo on the touchdown pass to Joe Robichaud.

Later, West Haven would drive it down to the Tigers' goal line, where quarterback Tom Lawrence took it in for the score.

The rest of the half was all Daniel Hand: Dylan Taylor ran the ball for the score as the Hand offense got the job done through the air and on the ground.

You could say the game "got out of Hand" as the Tigers took a 30-7 lead, and it looked like it was on cruise control.

But it would turn out to be a wild finish in this game: Hand scored to tie the game and made the extra point for a 41-40 win with just 27 seconds left.

Hand held on to remain perfect on the season at 8-0.
