Homeowner Claims Contractor's Work Led To Mold"I took the kids to the doctor and they say they have to move out of the house because that's what's making them sick," Morgan said.
Morgan said that when it rains, water leaks down the walls. She said the ceiling boards in the attic are black from moisture and in the winter, icicles form."This is my window, the brand new window … every contractor says he didn't do a good job," Morgan said.Channel 3's I-Team tracked down Morgan's contractor, Alford Miller of Classic Windows and Siding. The I-Team discovered that Miller's offices in Hartford no longer exist. In a phone interview, Miller told the I-Team that the windows' manufacturer is to blame. He said the windows are defective and should be covered under the warranty. Miller also said that the Morgans have a bad vent in their attic that causes moisture to seep in.The I-Team discovered that there are four complaints against Miller with the state Department of Consumer Protection -- one every year since 2002.The Morgans said they are worried about what will happen if they don't receive help soon."I don't think it will last another winter, I don't," Morgan said.Channel 3 I-Team reporter Kara Sundlun reported that the Morgans may be eligible for money from the state's home improvement guaranty fund.As long as a contractor is licensed, consumers can recoup up to $15,000 if a court rules against a contractor.
