SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. -- Mae Pollard said she was scammed by a man who showed up at her South Windsor home with what he claimed was leftover asphalt. She said he promised to repave her driveway for $1,300, but after he started, the price skyrocketed to $3,100 -- the entire value of her bank account. She wrote out a check to a man named Alexander Cooper, she said. She added that his white dump truck said Cooper Paving. After Tuesday night’s Channel 3 I-Team report, South Windsor police said viewers began calling them with tips about finding the paver.“There were individuals who were either approached by this gentleman or thought they knew him through other business dealings,” said Sgt. Scott Custer. On Wednesday afternoon, police said they got a call from Norwich attorney Donald Beebe, who told them he represents Alexander Cooper.Police said Beebe told them Cooper hired him after seeing the I-Team report. Police said Beebe told them he wouldn’t let them speak to Cooper, but said Cooper will turn himself in if and when an arrest warrant is prepared.“We'll follow up on all the leads that were presented to us by all these citizens and continue to pursue this matter, and hopefully end in an arrest and hopefully restitution for the victim in this matter,” said Custer.Pollard said she hopes police move quickly because she needs to get her driveway redone.
