HARTFORD, Conn. -- Investigators from the state’s attorney’s office executed a search warrant at the home of a longtime Hartford councilwoman and former deputy mayor Wednesday morning.Last year, the office searched the home of Mayor Eddie Perez, whom sources say is a target of a state probe into rumored corruption in Hartford City Hall.Read more about the investigation in the I-Team blog The focus of that search had to do with work being done at his home by city contractor Carlos Costa. However, City Councilor Veronica Airey-Wilson wouldn’t say why investigators were searching her home Wednesday."I was assured by the state's attorney that this investigation is private and is a secret, so I'm surprised that this information was leaked to the media," she told the Channel 3 I-Team. “So I have to be suspect about who leaked this to the media."
Airey-Wilson said she was fully cooperative with investigators. The Channel 3 I-Team asked Airey-Wilson, whom sources describe as a confidant of Perez, if she thinks this search could result in her arrest."I don't know what they're going to do," she said. "I don't know any reason why they would reach that conclusion. I don't have anything to do with the investigation that's going on. I have not done anything illegal in any way, shape or form."She said she is concerned that word of the investigation was leaked because she is running for public office.Perez declined to comment on the investigation.
