Airey-Wilson Store Posters Come Down

Change Comes After Woman's Home Is Searched

People in the Blue Hills section of Hartford said they’ve noticed posters advertising City Councilor Veronica Airey-Wilson’s bid for a Senate seat have come down from storefront windows.

“I noticed it was gone from here,” said Phylicia Ross, of Hartford. “I noticed that it was gone from across the street. People don't want to support people who talk about making change and really don't want it.”

News of the search of her home by state investigators on Wednesday spread quickly through Airey-Wilson's home base. Eyewitness News learned that the search likely had to do with granite counters installed by Carlos Costa, who has earned millions for construction work he has done for the city.

"I'm disappointed to hear this," said Ross.

Last year, the same investigators searched Mayor Eddie Perez's home, looking at work Costa did there.

Sources said the investigation of Airey-Wilson may end up going beyond renovation work.

Airey-Wilson told Eyewitness News during a phone interview on Wednesday that she “has nothing to hide.”
