POSTED: 11:38 am EDT May 29, 2009

(Sports Network) - Tennessee-Martin women's basketball coach Tara Tansil-Gentry has announced her resignation after five years at the helm.

Tansil-Gentry had been with the program for 18 years. She spent five years as a player and eight as an assistant coach before taking the head coaching reins.

"I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to coach at my alma mater and have truly enjoyed my time being a part of the UT-Martin athletics department," said Tansil-Gentry, who will be reassigned to a teaching position with the university.

"My decision to move into a teaching position is strictly for family reasons and is a good opportunity for me to continue with the university," she added. "This was a decision reached by my family and me, and I am excited about my new position."

Tansil-Gentry posted a record of 41-104 as head coach.
