Bidders Make Proposals For Civic Center

POSTED: 6:27 pm EST January 10, 2007

The future of the Hartford Civic Center remains unknown as three developers vie for control of the center that has been home to the Wolfpack, UConn basketball and numerous concerts.

The Connecticut Development Authority heard proposals for the center from three bidders Wednesday afternoon.

Northland Investment Corporation, the developers who built Hartford 21, want to tear down and rebuild the Civic Center and entice a National Hockey League team.

The Baldwin/Global Spectrum Partnership, which includes former Whalers owner Howard Baldwin, wants to bring a minor league hockey team called the Hartford Whalers to the center, with an NHL team being the his ultimate goal.

The current operator, Madison Square Garden, wants to keep the Wolf Pack hockey team at the civic center through 2013.
