The bid of a developer was chosen Wednesday to control the future of the Hartford Civic Center.

Northland Investment Corporation, the developer that built Hartford 21, won its bid to run the center that has been home to the Wolfpack, University of Connecticut basketball and numerous concerts.

The developer beat out bids by the Baldwin/Global Spectrum Partnership, which included former Whalers owner Howard Baldwin and Madison Square Garden, the current operator.

Northland Investment said in January that it wanted to tear down and rebuild the Civic Center to entice a National Hockey League team.
