Roadside Robin Hoods Help Fill Gas Tanks
Duo Giving Away $100 Bills To Residents For Gas
For almost two weeks, two mysterious men dressed in hats, sunglasses, green shirts and khaki pants have approached people in gas stations, surprising them with $100 bills for their fillups and a card that states their goal of “refueling our community.”Channel 3 Eyewitness News has unmasked the Roadside Robin Hoods. They are Bill McGurk, of Rockville Bank, and Gary Craig, of Company 96-5 WTIC.“The deal is this is a very devastating time for people, and gas -- you can see the prices -- we're just trying to help people. We're trying to ease the pain," said Craig. The gas giveaway is now moving into a new phase, the duo said. They're going to give away gas for the rest of the summer, they said.
"When you register online at 965wtic.com or garycraig.com, we call your name, probably give you nine minutes to call in,” said Craig. “If you call in within the nine minutes we give you 50 gallons of gas, and we also give 50 gallons of gas to your favorite charity."At the end of the giveaway campaign, the men said one person will win a year’s worth of gas, and an equivalent prize will be donated to the Channel 3 Kids Camp.
