OLD LYME, Conn. -- Those looking for cheap gas got a pleasant surprise Monday in Old Lyme, where All Pro Automotive was selling gas for $1.99 per gallon.

“We're trying to stimulate the local economy, shake it up a little bit,” owner Jim Graybill said.

Unfortunately, the deal is one day only.

Graybill said he’s owned All Pro for about three years, and he’s never done anything like this before. He let drivers fill up their vehicles from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday for a fraction of what they usually pay.

However, there’s a catch: Those who wanted the discount had to pay cash, but that didn’t seem to bother drivers.

That didn't seem to bother drivers one bit...

“I was looking out the window, and I said, ‘Gee, Jim is pretty busy over there,’ and I saw the gas $1.99,” said Paul Dorothy. “I have five trucks, so I am coming to fill them up.”

“I live down the road,” said David Kus. “They told me gas was $1.99, so I ran home and came back.”

Graybill said he hoped the discount would put a little extra celebration into Columbus Day.
