HARTFORD, Conn. -- Children’s Two-Way Radios have been recalled because the rechargeable batteries can leak electrolyte, posing a chemical burn hazard to consumers, Department of Consumer Protection inspectors said Wednesday. The radios were sold exclusively at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide from Aug. 2008 to September 2008, inspectors said. They said the walkie-talkie-type toys were manufactured in China for Cobra Electronics, of Chicago, Ill.The recalled radios are made of pink and come in purple packaging. The product number, PR191-2VP, can be located on the front of the packaging and on the label inside the battery compartment. The recall involves the two-way radios with the 300 mah "CEL" batteries. The batteries are standard AAA Nickle Metal Hydride battery cells with a black wrapper. Printed on the battery is 300 mah (CEL) and the date code (TF or RF).Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell Jr. recommended consumers check their homes for this product. If found, he said, the product should be removed from children immediately. For a free replacement and a 20 percent off coupon, consumers should call Cobra Electronics at 888-252-9889 Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or visit its Web site.Although there have been no reports of injuries or incidents, inspectors said, the potential for a burn hazard is high.
