Local Wine May Find Way To Farmers Markets

Lawmakers Mull Proposal

Along with home-grown fruits and vegetables, lawmakers are considering adding local wine to the offerings of farmer's markets.

The bill is one of several state lawmakers considered at a public hearing Tuesday.

"It would give the opportunity for Connecticut winegrowers to showcase what they do," said Peter Cisek, a farmer's market customer.

There are about 100 farmer's markets in Connecticut and 20 wineries.

"Obviously, to keep them with their ability to sell here in Connecticut, that helps them rather than ship products out of the state. It keeps the dollars here in Connecticut," said Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Jerry Farrell.

Lawmakers are expected to make a decision on the proposal in the next few months. Click here for a list of Connecticut farmer's markets.
