UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Dealing with a shortfall of funds from the state and advertising, the tourism industry is trying to come up with ways to market what Connecticut has to offer. For the second year in a row, Gov. Jodi Rell has rolled out the Staycation program. She said the program is an initiative that showcases Connecticut attractions.Martha Hartle said she decided to spend Wednesday with her family at Mystic Aquarium. Like most people living on a budget, she said she's looking for fun things to do that aren’t too expensive. In an effort to develop more ways to market the state, tourism groups from across the state met at Foxwoods Casino for a conference.Dave Quinn, of the Connecticut Conference on Tourism, said shrinking dollars are forcing the group to be creative. One proposed idea to increase interest is a Web site that allows users to create their own itineraries, sort of like one-stop shopping, conference members said. The Web site is called mysticcountry.com. The site includes all attractions in southeastern Connecticut, including shops, restaurants and hotels.
