Man Accused Of Assaulting Multiple Girls

Police: Man Met Girls On Internet

POSTED: 11:53 pm EST November 16, 2006
UPDATED: 12:18 am EST November 17, 2006

A man accused of assaulting underage girls he met on a social networking Web site is now facing more charges.

Scott Shefelbine, 31, is accused of trying to rape a teen in the parking lot of Tolland High School -- charges that come after months of investigation by various police departments.

According to police, Shefelbine would target young girls on MySpace.com, lie about his age, meet and assault the girls. Police said Shefelbine would sometimes wear a hairpiece to conceal his age.

The recent arrest is Shefelbine’s third in the last couple of months. He is accused of sexually assaulting as many as seven underage girls in Tolland, Vernon and West Hartford.

According to court records, Shefelbine allegedly met the Tolland girl on MySpace and then took her to the high school in February of last year.

The alleged victim told police that Shefelbine tried to force her to have sex with him. According to court documents, the girl told police that she had to hit him to get away. She said that a car pulled up shortly after and she pretended to get a cell phone call from her mother. She told police that Shefelbine angrily drove her home, running red lights and stop signs.

Shefelbine was released on bond and ordered to wear an ankle bracelet and not have contact with girls under the age of 18.
