Milford Family Buys Colorado Snow On eBay

Conn. Man Spends $200 For Three Snowballs

With all of the recent snowfall in Colorado, one family decided to begin selling it to raise money for a new snow blower and found a buyer in a Milford family.

When Chris Hansen, of Milford, saw Colorado snow for sale on eBay, he said he laughed and decided that he wanted to be in on the joke.

Like many Connecticut residents, Hansen and his wife, Rosemary, have been waiting for snow to fall from the sky.

"I saw something on the Internet that said, 'Snow for sale from Colorado,' and I thought, well 'Lucky them, they have it to sell, we have nothing,'" Hansen said.

The pitch on eBay was a family selling snowballs to raise money for a snow blower. Bids came in from across the country.

"I've gotten letters from people going, 'You're nuts. Why are you buying snow?' I'm like, 'Because I don't have any.' I have three daughters and they're all like, 'Daddy, there's no snow,'" Hansen said.

Chris thought it would be fun to give each of his daughters a snowball, so he began bidding on three of the 10 Colorado snowballs for sale, and won the bids.

"Who would pay $200 for snow? It was a little less, but in the end, I just kind of rounded it up so they'd have the money for their snow blower," Hansen said.

The Hansens said they are unsure when the snow will arrive, but are eager to get it in the refrigerator.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Dan Kain reported that two other sites were selling Colorado snow for those equally disappointed as the Hansens with the recent New England weather.
