WALLINGFORD, Conn. -- A 19-year-old Wallingford man died after consuming a lethal amount of caffeine.James Stone went into cardiac arrest after overdosing on a popular brand of caffeine pills.Stone's doctor told Eyewitness News that the amount of caffeine found in the man's body was the equivalent of 30 cups of coffee.Stone's parents said that a few hours before their son died, he complained of fatigue, nausea and the chills."He came in and said he wanted to go to the bathroom, and the next thing I knew, he was on the floor," said Stone's father, James Stone. After an autopsy revealed that Stone had toxic levels of caffeine in his system, his parents said they discovered a bottle of No-Doz caffeine pills in his room.Stone's doctor said that he likely took 25 to 30 pills not knowing the deadly effects. The recommended dose is not more than one pill every few hours.Stone's parents and doctor said he probably took more pills to help him stay awake and alert."I just want to make everyone aware that it can kill you, especially if you overdo it," said James Stone. While the medical examiner ruled Stone's death an accidental overdose, Stone's doctor told Eyewitness News that the pills should come with a warning label."The medication, with the absence of current warnings on it, should be banned from the state," said Dr. Anthony Lendino.
