Norwich Police Arrest 3 In Overnight Stabbing

Delivery Driver Stabbed At Apartment Complex

UPDATED: 11:02 am EDT April 10, 2007

A food delivery driver was hospitalized on Monday night after a late-night stabbing in Norwich.

Norwich police said responding officers found a man outside one of the buildings at the Mohegan Commons Apartments suffering from several stab wounds.

Witnesses gathered at the scene on North Street after the man was stabbed at about 7 p.m.

Police said three men stabbed the delivery driver and stole the food. A preliminary investigation indicates the motive was robbery, police said.

The victim was transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Keith Mutch used to live in the apartment complex and said it seems like a safe place at first glance, but that looks can be deceiving.

"We knew someone who lived there who their son and the mother were selling drugs ... out of their apartment," Mutch said. "The place is kind of really sketchy over there."

Officers charged John S. Fortes, 18, and Quentin Monserrate, 17, with various robbery, assault, larceny counts. Police also arrested and charged Anne Pires, 18, with a weapons charge. All are from Norwich and will face arraignment this week.

Fortes remains held on $60,000 bond and the others remain held on $50,000 bond.
