HARTFORD, Conn. -- Police cited dozens of people after an early-morning underage drinking raid in Hartford. In the Hartford Police Department's latest raid for underage drinkers, officers responded to The Tap Cafe on New Britain Avenue near Trinity College at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday.Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Hena Daniels reported almost 40 seen teenagers outside the bar on cell phones were slapped with tickets for underage drinking charges."I don't know, we were all just chilling in there. All of a sudden, the cops rolled in and they went right to the back door and they made sure no one tried to sneak out the windows or anything," said Matt Allen, a witness.Daniels reported Hartford police confiscated dozens of fake identification cards. Police also arrested the bar's bouncer on charges of allowing underage drinking, and more arrests may follow."They were asking everyone what they had to drink and who sold it to them and whether they have ID or not," Allen said."I guess a couple of the cops were undercover and they went inside or something like that, and that's absolutely horrible," said David Allen, a witness. The bar's owner told Eyewitness News he has black light and a scanner to check for IDs but that "these kids are always a step ahead."
