Surveillance video inside a parking garage captured a group of men taking two motorcycles in the past week, police said.

Eastern Connecticut State University police said two motorcycles were stolen from a campus parking garage.

  • Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Diana Rocco reported the men were seen on video loading the bike into a pickup truck and taking off last Friday. Police said four men were seen sitting in a light-colored Chevrolet pickup truck.

Dave Abel, an ECSU junior, had his bike worth about $6,000 stolen from the campus parking garage last Thursday.

"I put all my savings into it. I worked a couple summers for it," Abel said.

Surveillance video shows Abel's yellow motorcycle being taken away by three of the four men. Rocco reported that the men were first spooked by a passerby but returned to the scene and wheeled out the motorcycle to their truck.

Police said the first motorcycle was stolen last Tuesday from the same place. Surveillance video showed the same pickup truck with similar-looking suspects who backed in to the parking space and loaded the bike into the truck in less than two minutes.

Police have since increased patrols around parking garages. Abel said he thinks one of the witnesses in the garage may not have known they were walking in on a crime and they may be the only shot he has to recover his motorcycle.

"Hopefully, someone saw them and they can get them, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high," he said.

Police are recommending that motorcycle owners keep their bikes locked up. If you have information regarding this investigation, contact ECSU police by dialing 860-465-5310.
