Police: Father Admits To Shaking, Dropping Baby

Man Charged In Infant Son's Assault

POSTED: 3:15 pm EDT April 19, 2007

An 18-year-old Hartford father is accused of shaking his 2-month-old son.

Casey Collins was arrested Wednesday in connection with the infant's April 11 assault, according to police.

Police said officers responded to Connecticut Children's Medical Center last Wednesday after receiving a report of an infant with serious injuries.

In a sworn statement to the Hartford Police Department's Juvenile Investigative Division, Collins admitted that he became frustrated with his infant son's crying and shook the child, police said.

Police said that Collins told investigators that while he was shaking the baby, the child fell out of his hands, landed on the floor and lost consciousness.

The baby remains hospitalized and is listed in stable condition.

Collins is charged with risk of injury, reckless endangerment and assault. He remains held on a $200,000 bond.
