UPDATED: 1:31 pm EDT May 30, 2007

Eyewitness News has learned that Waterbury police fired an officer this week who is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Waterbury police told Eyewitness News that the department has terminated Lt. Robert Kennedy. Kennedy was charged with sexually assaulting the boy three times.

Eyewitness News has called Kennedy's attorney for comment, but they have not yet returned calls.

Waterbury Police said Kennedy was fired on Friday after an internal investigation. Police said Kennedy did submit a letter of resignation, but it was not accepted and he was terminated.

Police charged Kennedy, a businessman, a court security officer and two other men last week, charging them with several counts of sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy at Hamilton Park. The charges come after a complaint by the boy's father.

The other men charged include Donald Beaulieu, 40, of Watertown; Carl Gemino, 63, the co-owner of Gem Manufacturing; Michael Juliano, 25, of Waterbury and Bayron Ramos, 20, of Waterbury.

Police said the investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
