More Charges Levied In Teen Sex Case

Waterbury Businessman Charged In Watertown

UPDATED: 12:20 am EDT June 7, 2007

A Waterbury businessman already charged in a sex scandal involving a teenager faced more charges in another town on Wednesday.

Carl Gemino turned himself in to Watertown police on Wednesday following his arrest last month on charges of forcing a 15-year-old boy to have sexual relations.

In addition to Gemino's arrest last month, police also arrested Waterbury police Lt. Robert Kennedy; Donald Beaulieu, 40, of Watertown; Michael Juliano, 25, of Waterbury and Bayron Ramos, 20, of Waterbury.

Gemino, 63, is the co-owner of Gem Manufacturing and lives in an estate in Watertown. On Wednesday, Watertown police charged him with sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Gemino sat silently in the back of his lawyer's car while the attorney, Jerry Attanasio, spoke on his behalf.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Kara Sundlun asked Attanasio whether Gemino admitted to the charges.

"No, absolutely not," Attanasio said.

Gemino already faces 10 counts of sexual assault in Waterbury, where police said he and others paid the teen to have sex with them at Hamilton Park and other places.

Eyewitness News obtained the statement Gemino made to Waterbury police last month, in which police said Gemino admitted to having sex with the boy.

"Both JV and Mr. Gemino are consistent in their statements that they had sexual intercourse at least 10 times," a portion of the statement reads.

"We are in the process of now trying to suppress his statement that was given in Waterbury," Attanasio told Eyewitness News. "We were denied access (to the statement for) six hours."

Watertown police said they believe more people were involved in the abuse.

"We anticipate making at least two more arrests in the coming days regarding this matter," Watertown police Lt. Robert Desena said.

Gemino paid $250,000 bond and Kennedy remains on paid leave under house arrest.
