Exclusive Outside Court: Gault's Father Speaks

Man Calls Case Against Gault 'Railroading'

UPDATED: 2:03 pm EDT June 7, 2007

A man who claims to be the father of a man arrested in the case of a missing girl had few words on Thursday.

As Eyewitness News reported live on Thursday at noon outside Hartford Superior Court, a man stood off to the side muttering, "I'm Adam Gault's father" before walking away.

Adam Gault is one of three adults arrested on Wednesday in the case of a missing teenage girl who was discovered alive in a West Hartford home. Ann Murphy and Kimberly Cray were also arrested and charged in the case.

The man told Eyewitness News that he "didn't know anything about her," referring to the girl, Danielle Erica Cramer, 15, of Bloomfield, who disappeared from her home on June 14, 2006.

The man claimed Gault is innocent until proven guilty and told Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Len Besthoff that the case against Gault is "railroading."

"(It's) all supposition, all supposition. In other words, alleged," the man said.

When asked about the discovery of the girl at Gault's house, the man replied," That's another whole story, I don't know about that."

When asked whether Danielle went with Gault voluntarily, the man replied, "That's my understanding."

Eyewitness News' sister station WCBS-TV in New York traced the ownership of the car that the man got into outside the courthouse and reported that the registration is to that of a Richard Gault, of Meriden.
