Police: Mattress, Tripod Found In Gault's Rented Space

Man Accused With Keeping Missing Bloomfield Girl In Hidden Room

Police are investigating whether that main suspect in the disappearance of 15-year-old Danielle Cramer videotaped himself having sex with young girls.

Police said Adam Gault, who is accused in the disappearance of keeping Danielle in a hidden room at his West Hartford home, had rented commercial space.

Danielle was found when Bloomfield and West Hartford police executed search warrants at 258 Newington Road and found her locked in a small, hidden room.

Danielle disappeared on June 14, 2006.

Police arrested three people from the house, including Gault, 41, Ann Murphy, 40, and Kimberly Cray, 26.

Police said Friday that there was a mattress with a video camera tripod positioned over it in Gault's rented commercial space.

Capt. Jeff Blatter of the Bloomfield Police Department said that detectives learned of the commercial space during a landlord tenant dispute last year.

Police said they received a phone call from the landlord after news of Danielle's discovery surfaced.

"There was a mattress strung about on the floor, bedding material, there was a sofa -- and this was supposed to be a place of business. That was where the landlord- tenant dispute arose," Blatter said.

Blatter said the landlord called police a couple of days ago.

"When this whole thing broke, and he heard the name, he brought to the detectives' attention that he did take note during that investigation how there was a bed set up in an odd spot," said Blatter. "There was a tripod set up right over the bed leading him to believe that there was sexual activity there that was being recorded."

Bloomfield Police told Eyewitness News Friday that the FBI has been called to help investigate Gault and whether he has had any relationships with underage girls.

Blatter told Eyewitness News that there are other allegations of Gault having inappropriate relationships with underage girls in the past.

"There were previously three police investigations over the past 10 years involving Mr. Gault and underage girls," Blatter said. "At the time, those investigations did not result in arrests because of insufficient information."

Blatter said that as detectives begin re-interviewing the people involved in the past investigations, they have received more information.

"One of them broke down now that they're an adult and gave us additional information that they had not previously given to law enforcement agencies and explained that she was absolutely terrified by Mr. Gault and that's why she didn't report all the information.," Blatter said.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Len Bestoff reported that when Bloomfield police searched Gault's home on Wednesday, they seized a computer and storage media. Bestoff reported Friday that police said they also seized a book on hypnosis from Gault's home.

Danielle's uncle, Timmothy Smith, talked to Eyewitness News after learning about the latest investigation into Gault's behavior.

"I always knew there were sick people out there like him and I just never thought that it would hit home," Smith said.

Smith told Eyewitness News about Danielle's latest meeting with her mother.

"Danielle was very happy to see her mother the second time. She's been asking about all of us. She wrote us all letters of a personal nature. ... In her letters, she wants to come home," Smith said. "She's going to have to move at her own speed."

Charges against Gault, Murphy and Cray were upgraded on Thursday to first-degree conspiracy to commit unlawful restraint, conspiracy to commit risk of injury to a minor and interfering with police.

Gault remains held on a $1 million bond.
